PlayStation 4 Announcement: 10 New Features You Should Be Excited About

9. System Specs

One of the first things announced at tonight's conference was a limited rundown of the PS4's impressive technical specs, such as an x86 CPU, an enhanced PC GPU, 8GB RAM, and predictably, a local hard drive, though curiously, they didn't announce the size of the drive, suggesting that perhaps this not been finalised yet. Though these figures probably mean little to the average consumer, they're at least consistent with the tendency for consoles to keep level with high-end PCs, and while not everything we were shown looked truly next-gen, a few of the demos unquestionably demonstrate that Sony are keen to ensure that developers can easily make great games following the notoriously difficult to develop for PS3. The PC-like architecture also means that it will be very easy for Sony to port games to the PC.
