PlayStation 5: 8 New Rumours You Need To Hear
4. ...As Are Square Enix
Final Fantasy developer Square Enix is another studio which will be at the fore when the PS5 era gets underway, as the firm has already carried out "technical investigations" into the potential of next-gen technology.
This is for an all-new game for the next PlayStation and the Xbox One successor which hasn't entered pre-production yet. Whether it's a new Final Fantasy or a different intellectual property remains to be seen.
Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata told Eurogamer...
“It's not even pre-production yet! We've got quite a lot of the technical investigations sorted for that. We've done a lot of investigation - about how the online functionality will work, moving away from dedicated games machines to cloud processing, how we could use those.
A lot of the groundwork was done with Final Fantasy 15 - so we're in a good position for going into the main development.”
Although Square is clearly prepping for the launch of the PS5 and next Xbox, Tabata confessed to having no insider intel from Sony or Microsoft regarding potential release dates for the machines.
But by getting in there ahead of the curve, there's a chance the gaming giant will have a title to announce before the next hardware generation gets underway.
