Info about what the PS5 might be rocking under the hood has started trickling through the grapevine, and from the sound of things it will pack an almighty graphical punch.

An "inside source" has apparently told TweakTown that Sony's next-gen machine will boast a full discrete GPU, rather than an APU like Microsoft's latest Xbox.

But what does it actually mean?

Well, a discrete GPU is a graphics chip that is separate from the main CPU, which allows it to process graphics more efficiently since it's dedicated to this sole task.

In terms of real-world results, such hardware would allow the PS5 to deliver a true 4K, 60FPS gaming experience and potentially boost the performance of PlayStation VR.

The PS4 Pro is already capable of running select games at this frame rate and resolution, but during the PS5 era, it will likely be the standard for everything.
