PlayStation 5: 8 Rumours & Details You Need To Know
6. Virtual Reality "Goodies" Will Be Baked In
Industry growth as a whole may have stalled to the point where Microsoft has lost all interest in providing an answer to its competitor's virtual reality offering, but Sony is reportedly content with pushing ahead with the tech for the PS5.
As per a rumour (keep those pinches of salt at the ready) originating from SemiAccurate (via ResetEra), Sony is planning to make the feature an integral component of the PS4's successor, to the extent that various VR "goodies" will be implemented at a system - rather than peripheral add-on à la PSVR - level, meaning that, whatever Sony's best-laid plans are, every PS5 owner will have access to virtual reality features.
That potential outcome immediately mimics the similar decision Microsoft made to bundle Kinect devices with every launch Xbox One console but considering the eventual outcome there, Sony could be taking a huge gamble.
Virtual reality is considerably more impressive than the hand-waving and posturing required for motion gaming, of course, but it remains to be seen whether the former will even continue to be commercially viable throughout 2018, let alone two to three years from now.
