1. It's Just Weird Enough

Tone is an extremely difficult thing to get right with a movie like this, but it's a relief that the trailer seems to suggest Letterman and co. have found a firm middle-ground.

Play things too safe and it'll feel sanitised, but go full bizarro weirdness and you risk alienating more casual audiences.

While the plot and human characters seem positively stock so far, the film doesn't seem to be shying away from how creepy and demented some of the Pokémon look, especially with the glimpses of Psyduck and Mr. Mime throughout the trailer (the latter in particular).

It'll be a tough tonal balance to walk, but this first look certainly suggests they might've pulled it off.
