Pokémon: Ranking The 10 Best Gym Leaders
4. Chuck
Chuck is one of the only trainers who can claim to be even more enthusiastic about Pokémon than Crasher Wake. He even trains with his Pokémon, like physically trains, lifting weights and sparring, so definitely gains some points there.
He vows to train for 24 hours after every defeat, showing extreme dedication to his craft. It does however seem to take a bit of a toll on his marriage, with his wife loitering sadly outside of his gym. She may have had a bit of a soothing influence on him originally though, so they still seem like a good match.
In Gold & Silver, Chuck tries to intimidate his foes, telling trainers his Pokémon will ‘crush stones and shatter bones’, before tossing a boulder to display his own strength.
By HeartGold and SoulSilver though, he’s much more mature, waiting under a waterfall so only toughest trainers may reach him.
He only brings two ‘mons with him, but it’s nice to see Primeape and especially Poliwrath get some Fighting focus instead of the usual Hitmons and Machamp. The toughest gym leader, perhaps, but not the toughest battle.
