Pokémon: Ranking The Starters Of All 6 Generations From Worst To Best
10. Squirtle
Leading the first generation starters into our list is Squirtle, the Water Type for the Kanto region. Squirtle's full of personality and, although players can't actually get one that wears those snazzy glasses from the anime, is a decent enough Pokémon to start the game with.
Squirtle's great for getting the first gym badge under your belt, brushing Brock's Pokémon aside with ease. From that point on, however, he doesn't hold much advantage for the player until much later in the game. It's only when you get to the seventh gym on Cinnabar Island that your evolved Squirtle will be able to lead your team again, but by then you could've picked up a much stronger Ground Type to do the same job.
Squirtle also has a pretty shallow moveset, similar to Chikorita, with very little variety compared to some others of the same type in latter generations. You really have to put a lot of extra work into making Squirtle's family into exemplary battlers.
