Pokemon Sun And Moon: 10 Things Fans Demand

9. Give Players More Choices

Pokemon Boy/Girl
Nintendo

By the absolute loosest definition going Pokemon is an RPG, and it's about time to it started to play more like one.

Without wading into the murky, murky waters of alternative endings and entirely different narrative threads, Pokemon needs to occasionally present players with some sort of a crossroads. If only to make you feel like you're having some sort of impact on the world its set in beyond merely moving the story forward.

The only reason an Open World Pokemon game doesn't already exist is because civilisation might come to a shuddering and catastrophic halt (very noble of Nintendo, but civilisation is absolute not worth saving so they might as well), so in lieu we might as well at least get the feel of one. Nothing drastic, just a few variables in the game that the player gets to choose between; either directly through their actions, or subtly through their behaviour.

Maybe open up alternative routes between cities with entirely different Pokemon to catch, or maybe receive unique Pokemon/items as gifts depending on how favourably certain NPCs view you. There's a huge scope for this without it having to get too complicated.
