Picking influences for the origins of new regions and Pokémon is undoubtedly a difficult task by now. As we enter the seventh generation of this massive franchise, it's to be expected that ideas are getting harder and harder to come by. Rather than try to mix and match with a few decent ones, however, Pokémon Sun & Moon should simply choose one and flesh it out more thoroughly.

In X & Y, for example, a confused mix of continental European lifestyles was jarring against the elements of Norse mythology that appeared in the narrative when the legendary Pokémon were introduced. Suddenly we had something like a Thor movie set in Beauty & The Beast's small provincial town, and the whole thing became more than a bit strange.

The regions in Pokémon games are always massive strengths when they're put together intelligently, but the Kalos region suffered for feeling confused throughout. The Norse mythology would've felt great if the region had been a region of snow-capped mountains and sturdy temples, but instead the brash strength of the legendary creatures felt at odds with the decidedly Parisian aesthetic.

On the subject of confusion, we need to take a look at the X & Y's story as well...
