Pokémon Sun & Moon: 10 Things It Must Lose From X & Y
5. Abandon The Overly Convoluted Narrative
If the mix of Norse myth and quaint European townships was a bit much for your palette, chances are the mess that was the second half of X & Y's story wouldn't have done a lot for you either. The story of Team Flare and their fire-headed leader Lysandre started out like all the other Pokémon antagonist stories, but an overly-ambitious narrative upset the game later on.
The mix of mega evolutions, an ultimate weapon and a 3,000 year old king becomes a whirlwind of sci-fi tropes and even the odd Austin Powers moment. In the past, it's been enough for players to just know that Team Rocket or Plasma were bad people; we never needed such an over the top setup for it.
While it was admittedly intriguing to hear a little more on the indication that the Pokémon World once toiled under the weight of a great war, the final acts added virtually nothing to the game apart from frustrating, un-skippable dialogues and exposition. A simpler story for Pokémon Sun & Moon is an absolute must after this whole mess.
