Pokémon Sun & Moon: 10 Things It Must Lose From X & Y

3. Give Up The Mega Evolutions

One of the most heavily-touted battle features on offer in Pokémon X & Y was the introduction of Mega Evolutions. These single-use options let certain creatures take on more powerful forms and even different type combos when activated, and they could often turn the tide of battle in your favour if you found yourself overpowered.

The problem with this Digimon rip-off ultimately became the fact that it was jus that: an uninspired clone. Mega Evolutions played a relatively big role in the story of X & Y, but even that felt like it was shoe-horned in for convenience after the feature was conceived. Nothing about Mega Evolutions felt like it was a step forward for the series, and in truth it actually takes away some of the need for lasting strategy in these battles.

With Pokémon Sun & Moon rumoured to be bringing the newly-discovered Synchro evolutions to proceedings, it's time to admit that Mega Evolutions simply weren't worthwhile. With Synchro evolutions likely to introduce a mechanic for well-bonded trainers and Pokémon to reach stronger forms - like that of Ash and his Greninja in the anime series - there's simply no need for a flash in the pan like the Mega Evolutions anymore.
