1. Litten

Along with the Legendary version mascots, the first Pokémon we ever get to see when a new generation is announced are the starters. Always offered are a Grass, Water, and Fire Type partner to start our journey with, and the choice of who to pick has traditionally been very difficult over the years.

But this year, the choice is simple. The Grass/Flying Type Rowlet is mildly interesting, whilst Water Type Popplio is pretty embarrassing. This has made life easy for the feline Fire Type Litten who, in truth, still would've fared extremely well even against sterner competition.

Standing out as one of the best Fire Types alongside Charmander and Chimchar, Litten makes excellent use of its type and its animal inspiration. The fiery attacks it uses are said to be made from ignited hairballs, while its fur is also rich in highly flammable oils. Litten's style and performance all make sense; it's strange to call a series about elemental animals fighting each other logical but that's certainly what this is.

Litten is bound to be the choice of the majority of players in the game, and it will eventually go down as one of the best starter Pokémon that the series has ever produced.
