Pokémon Sword & Shield: 8 Pokémon To Dominate Multiplayer

7. Polteageist

Possibly the most quintessentially British Pokémon ever created, this ghost Pokémon can be absolutely tea-rifying if used correctly. Polteageist's main strategy utilises Shell Smash, a move that lowers its defense and special defense by one stage but doubles its attack, special attack and speed.

Shell Smash users are nothing new, with an established tactic being to give them the White Herb consumable item which removes stat drops a single time, offsetting the move's defense drops. What makes Polteageist special is its access to another move: Stored Power, a Psychic attack which grows in power according to the total number of stat boosts the user has. After a single Shell Smash, that gives Stored Power a whopping 140 base power. Coupled with its boosted stats, this makes Polteageist a huge offensive threat.

Polteageist's abilities are also handy: Cursed Body has a chance to disable an enemy's attack, preventing its use for a few turns, while Weak Armour offers a more risky option - any physical attack that hits it will drop Polteageist's defence by one stage but boost its speed by two, further strengthening Stored Power at the risk of taking more damage. With all this at its disposal, Polteageist is sure to leave your opponent in hot water.
