Pokémon Sword & Shield: Ranking Every New Pokémon So Far

9. Zamazenta

Alcremie Pokemon
Nintendo

You might naturally think that with Zamazenta being a Legendary yet still featuring so far down the list that it’s a worrying sign, but that’s not necessarily the case. The two Legendaries gracing the box art haven’t gotten too much traction, it’s true, but that needn’t be a death knell for them.

The two of them were shown at the same time, towards the end of the Nintendo direct which also introduced Dynamaxing, more of the region, Max Raid Battles, Sonia, Lance, Professor Magnolia, and a handful of other Pokémon like Gossifleur and Eldegoss.

It’s not just that they felt tacked on; they were tacked on, quite literally, to the end of the trailer. Nintendo even pulled the old Columbo and added a ‘just one more thing...’ before the trailer ended. Legendaries ultimately live and die by two things; their design and their story.

We know nothing of their story yet, and their designs are decent, but Zamazenta is just edged out by Zacian, with the shield ruff a little much. It seems like it might be more at home in Fire Emblem or Zelda in all honesty, but in fairness, it does suit Legendaries to be a little different and over the top.

What do you think?
