Pokémon Sword & Shield: 10 Gigantamax Secrets You TOTALLY Missed

5. Duraludon

While the inspiration of the steel/dragon type Pokémon isn't the most obvious, it's name comes from durable aluminium, Duralumin, and the common dinosaur suffix of "don". Duralumin is a hard, light alloy of aluminium with copper and other elements.

What's a little more obvious is that the Gigantamax form of Duraludon is based off a skyscraper. But which one?

Well, given Sword & Shield are filled with references to England (the town of Motostoke is heavily inspired by the city of Manchester), Duraludon is practically a living version of London skyscraper, The Shard.

Situated just outside of London Bridge station, this building is incredibly tall, towering over the landscape of the city. It's also a glass fronted building made with steel girders.

A side note though, if a building like this was made from Duralumin today, it would corrode very quickly and likely buckle and collapse. The metal was used commonly as an industrial era aluminium, which is relevant here as a callback to the industrial era of England itself.
