Another landscape-changing addition to the latest Pokémon instalment, is the introduction of the Fairy type, bringing the total to eighteen. It is the type associated with version X's mascot, Xerneas. Boy, does this new powerful type force you to rethink your in-game strategy. Fairy proves to be a deceptive name, as your strongest Pokémon may no longer look the most intimidating. Certainly one of the more effective elements this gen, the type is super effective against dragons, and takes no damage whatsoever from that same element. Fairy's few weaknesses come from very uncommon attack sources (Steel, Poison) and it's strength spreads over Dark types as well. Several previous generation Pokémon have now altered genetics to tailor the Fairy type, such as Gardevoir and Togepi, so plan your battles with that in mind. Although the type can be somewhat scarce, Eevee's new evolution Sylveon is an excellent and accessible addition to any party. As well as the combo type Psychic/Fairy in Ralts. So take advantage of this possibly overpowered type!
