For the majority of the series' history, choosing which members of your growing arsenal of Pokémon would be sacrificed to act as the unfortunately-known 'HM Slave'. And when the most recent titles changed this feature to make HM moves removable at any time, many players rejoiced.

Now, it's time that the series restored the status quo and put things back the way they were before. This may sound like an unusual request, but hear me out. Since the motto of the Pokémon series has always been "Gotta catch 'em all", any mechanic that would aide you in meeting this target should be useful, right?

Since most players wouldn't historically have equipped their prized Pokémon with a HM move for battle purposes, catching extra beasts that could be used for external moves like Cut or Strength became essential. Having to pick up and carry extra Pokémon like this forced players out of their comfort zone and actually aided the Pokédex quest. It may not be a hugely popular feature, but it needs to return.
