Prey Reviews: 11 Critical Reactions You Need To Know
8. Enemies Could Be Better
"The only thing I wish Prey had, was a little bit more variety when it comes to enemy types found throughout the game. Everything else is impeccable." - Attack of the Fanboy
"The one thing I feel is missing so far is some real AI manipulation fun. You can absolutely play stealthily and lure aliens around and out of your way with sounds or devices (such as the goofy off-brand Nerf gun). But because the aliens are the only enemy faction there aren’t a lot of opportunities to really mess with them by luring them into other factions or hazards outside of nearby explosives or turrets you can sometimes set up." - IGN
As was a concern for many pre-release, it's been confirmed that the game wants for more enemy variety. There's broad criticism of the Mimics as generic-looking creatures, and though their ability to hide in plain sight is undeniably intriguing, they're still not sufficiently varied throughout the game.
It seems that Arkane may have leaned a little too eagerly on that hide-anywhere mechanic while not actually giving the Mimics a compelling AI loop, nor changing them up enough aesthetically.
