Pro Evolution Soccer 2020 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

3. The Lack Of Licenses Is Mildly Distracting

Players who invest in Pro Evo know what they're getting into when it comes to licenses (or rather the lack thereof), but it's still a battle that the series simply cannot win.

FIFA boasts licenses for pretty much every major European team and dozens of others that fall outside of UEFA's remit, only losing out on Juventus this year to their rival. PES, comparatively, while obviously more invested in the select licenses it has in its library, has to fight on a completely different battlefield as a result.

To some, Pro Evo's lack of licenses and the presence of alternative teams like 'Liverpool Red' and so on is actually a part of its charm, and there are even well-known workarounds that the series' veterans adopt to get a more authentic experience.

However, it's still an issue, and one that Konami will never be able to address so long as FIFA maintains its dominance when it comes to licenses over leagues, teams and various competitions.
