PS2 Mini: 20 Games It MUST Include
6. Rule Of Rose
There were a ton of underrated horror gems released on the PlayStation 2; Fatal Frame, The Suffering, Siren… the list goes on for quite a while. However, one of the better unknown horror titles was Rule of Rose, a strange and unsettling title released in 2006 and published by notorious risk-takers Atlus.
The very definition of a cult classic, things quickly get weird as Jennifer, the game’s protagonist, is abducted and taken hostage aboard a steampunk airship ruled by a strange coven of orphan girls electing to call themselves the Red Crayon Aristocrats.
Gameplay wise, Rule of Rose borrows heavily from Resident Evil, and the fixed camera angles and strange puzzles will almost certainly remind horror fans of that series’ brand of iconic madness. The story, though somewhat difficult to follow, is suitably creepy to say the least.
Sony fans complained about the amount of obscure titles on offer on the PlayStation Classic, but this deranged title deserves a spot because it has yet to be re-released in the HD era. Plus, it’s ridiculously expensive, as used copies of the PS2 disc can go for north of 200 bones on eBay.
