PS2 Mini: 20 Games It MUST Include
5. SSX Tricky
2001’s SSX Tricky was the sixth generation snowboarding classic that may have made hip hop artists Run DMC more popular than that time when they helped to revive Aerosmith’s career. A pulse-pounding arcade menagerie of daring tricks, high scores, and over-the-top sensation, most who played this title back in the day are likely to have fond memories of it.
In the modern era, there aren’t really all that many snowboarding titles being released. Aside from Ubisoft’s somewhat underwhelming Steep and Nintendo’s Wii Ski from a few years ago, SSX Tricky feels like the mic drop that basically ended the genre because there was just no way to compete.
Playing very much like an enhanced version of Snowboard Kids or perhaps Cool Boarders 2—a game which actually saw inclusion on the original PlayStation Classic—SSX Tricky is the pinnacle of what the genre can offer.
For those looking for a serious simulator-centric experience, Tricky jumps the shark almost immediately. Yet, for those looking for a sports game by way of something like Mario Kart, this title absolutely won’t disappoint. There just aren’t that many games like this anymore, and it needs to see a resurgence on Sony’s second PlayStation Classic.
