PS4: 10 Crucial Features Sony Must Implement In 2016
3. Custom Names And Avatars
Another move in the name of personalisation would be to give players more control over their profile. Many PS4 owners have had the same PSN IDs since the PS3 days, and so have been stuck with the same player name for the best part of a decade. Even if a small fee was required (though preferably not), it'd be great to let players change their PSN ID at least once a year. People grow up, their tastes change, and I for one am grateful that I'm not forever stuck with 'Bigsh*t 3000' (leave me alone, I was just a kid). Along with an occasionally changeable PSN ID, Sony should add some kind of avatar system similar to those on the Wii U and Xbox One. These aren't to everyone's tastes, but have been a huge success on other consoles thanks in part to the fact that they make the console experience that bit more personal. It's nice to see some kind of visual representation of your online friends, and perhaps this could be combined with Trophies in some way so that achieving certain trophies would unlock new clothes, items and accessories for your avatar. Sony hinted last year that they were thinking about introducing an updated equivalent to PlayStation Home - the avatar-based 3D social space that Sony shut down last year. If this is the case, then it'd offer yet another reason for avatars to make a comeback on the PS4... perhaps in a Virtual Reality world?
