Now the reason this isn't a 'thing' yet is purely business - this generation, both Sony and Microsoft realised how friendly they were being last gen when they let you set pictures as your backgrounds. Why? Because they can just sell them to you instead. On the PS3 even if your 'theme' amounts to a few custom icons and sound effects the main draw is always going to be the image - and hardly anyone will bother plumping down the cash when they can just use the in-built browser to nab the something better for free. Put simply though, you can't backtrack on an idea that was formerly available for nothing and suddenly expect people to cough up the dough. There have been some custom themes on the Store for a while now, but nothing that curtails to a taste wider than the most obvious triple-A titles. Come on Sony, why not let us use our own screenshots as wallpapers at the very least? Or if you want to push the boat out and promote an console-exclusive that deserves it, a Hotline Miami 2-themed XMB would look amazing...
