8. They've Beaten Microsoft To The Punch
If we ignore the Wii U completely as it's not a viable threat in the least right now, the console war really comes down to Sony and Microsoft at this point, and after being pipped to the post by Microsoft in the previous generation with the Xbox 360 launching a whole year ahead of the PlayStation 3, Sony are not going to make the same mistake again. If we assume that Microsoft are going to wait until E3 to unleash the Xbox 720, then Sony have given themselves a 4-month lead by unveiling the PS4 at the PlayStation Meeting in February, to broad acclaim even if some expressed disappointment over the lack of a physical console on display. However, in rustling up excitement and beating Microsoft out of the gate this time, this means that they won't struggle to snatch a portion of the market share away from Microsoft as they did last time; they will be able to take the lead, and are apparently going to ensure that their console releases ahead of the 720. Though I suspect the release dates won't be more than a month or two different, the fact that Sony are learning from their mistakes is certainly encouraging.
