8. It Is Not So Focused On Glitz And Glamour
To me, despite my love for my PS3, it was clear that the Xbox 360 took the crown for the last console showdown. Developers simply found the console easier to work with and therefore, it had better looking games. It also has a better controller, better accessories, better prices games, better applications...the list goes on. It's obvious in hindsight that Microsoft has rested on its laurels slightly too long. The reason why I say this is because the X1 reveal showed off a side of the console I didn't like. It was as if the X1 was a personification of Megan Fox: Beautiful but untalented. Most of the reveal was focused on small bells and whistles that came with the console, as if to say that
that was what consumers wanted. They barely showed off any games or what the device could actually do. Now this put me off because it seemed far too obvious that Microsoft spent too much time in its R&D department, trying to work out how to get their next console to turn on without the press of a button. All of this resulted in a reveal which desperately needed an applause prompter. I am not trying to say that Sony was humble about its console's reveal, however the difference is, it did in fact deliver what the people wanted. And this is important because half the console war is won, simply by pleasing consumer demand. If you deliver what the people want, people will buy your product. Sorry Microsoft...
