PS4 Will Not Use Cell Processor?

AMD might be providing the processing power for Sony's new console?

When the PS3 first launched one of the biggest talking points at least technology wise was the use of the Cell processor that would be included in the console. The Cell processor was supposed to put the PS3 head and shoulders above the Xbox 360 in terms of technology and processing power. However, things have not worked out quite that way, as most Xbox 360 games and PS3 games are very similar graphically; not to mention there have been numerous game developers who have complained the PS3 is harder to develop for. Now according to a new report Sony may be ditching the Cell processor altogether for the PS4. This would coincide with the other recent PS4 rumour that AMD will be providing the processing power for Sony's new console. This does make sense because Sony basically all but abandoned Cell technology in 2007 citing cost. As for when will we get official news on the Sony's new console, we may have to wait a while according to some Sony representatives. This is in stark contrast to Microsoft which was reportedly holding a summit showing off their new console code-named Durango. However, I just can't see Sony releasing a new console that far away from Microsoft because of the problems Sony had catching up after the Xbox 360 had a years head start on the PS3.
