Memes aside, the importance of being able to produce a visual fidelity like 8K goes far beyond just bragging rights - it tells the consumer that the PS5 is in this for the long-haul, because 8K display technology - I mean, actual 8K TVs we actual peons can afford, and don’t just exist on the third floor of the Fenwicks Department Store for 84 grand - doesn’t yet exist, readily.
8K, like 4K that came before, gives developers more to play with, increasing clarity and legibility in ways that enhance everything from the readability of your HUD right through to being able to see enemies at greater distance.
And, though 8K might be a future we can finally get a taste of with Sony’s PS5, something we can all appreciate right now is hearing we’ll be playing games in full HD at 60FPS as a target baseline - something some gamers been waiting for since the start of the current generation.
No longer will console owners be the butt of the frame-rate jokes from those hopped-up typewriter enthusiasts, the PC-only crowd.
