PS5: 10 Ways It Will Change Gaming Forever

2. The SSD

Arguably the PS5’s biggest gun from a hardware perspective, the internal solid-state drive is an absolute game-changer.

You’ll probably have heard that it “makes things load much fastly”, but that’s only part of the story - besides initial game loading being crushed (with an impressive “one second boot from dash” being flaunted around, making going for a “loading pee” a thing of the past), it changes how games can be designed.

If you’ve ever dreaded getting into a Mass Effect lift or slow-walking through a thin corridor because you know they’re just thinly-veiled loading segments you’ll be particularly pleased with the eradication of these segments.

In addition (and potentially very excitingly), the SSD, unlike a regular HDD, doesn’t have to reference the same objects/references multiple times (for example, a ton of lamp-posts on a street) when you enter into a new area including these objects.

The only downside at the minute is that the default SSD is a mere 825GB, but (much like a neckless guitar) you should have no frets. Sony have announced... it’s fully-replaceable!

This makes the SSD my new most impressively intimidating SS, making the Gestapo the new runner-up.
