PS5: 13 CONFIRMED Details Sony Has Just Revealed
9. Optimised Storage Will Change The Way Game Installs Work
The bad news is that space on your PS5 harddrive is going to be premium real estate like it is on the PS4, as games will continue to be installed before they can be played, but Sony is taking steps to make sure these downloads and installs are as optimised as possible.
The good news is that game downloads will no longer be all-or-nothing affairs. At the moment, players either have a game installed or they don't, but with the next console they'll be able to pick and choose which parts of the games they want to keep, and which they want to discard.
Right now you can choose to download a multiplayer portion of a game before the single-player and vice-versa, but going forward these options will be greatly expanded. For instance, you might only want the multiplayer portion of Call of Duty installed, and the PS5 will allow you to do just that, while also uninstalling the single-player component to free up space.
More options is always good, but this could mean that the harddrive size for the PS5 won't be much larger than that found in the Pro, as the focus is instead on optimising the space already there.
