PS5: 7 HUGE Mistakes Sony Are Making
5. (Seemingly) Lying About Console Exclusives
I say "seemingly" as for now all we have is a source from Eurogamer, but turns out... Final Fantasy XVI isn't a "PS5 console exclusive" after all.
At least, not in the way that wording implies.
Instead of being tied to the PS5 in perpetuity (like the Final Fantasies of the late 90s were to PlayStation 1 and FF X on PS2), the reality is that FF XVI is a TIMED exclusive.
Its first period is reportedly a 6 month window of total medium exclusivity, where even the PC version has to hold off, then another 6 months of being on PS5 and PC.
Only after this, will the game apparently come to Xbox Series S/X.
This is the same trick Sony pulled with Final Fantasy VII Remake, throwing enough cash at the already money-hungry Square Enix, to secure a year's worth of console exclusivity. It gets them a win in the eyes of fans and optically, makes it appear like the game is a "console exclusive", even if that's not the case.
Whilst timed exclusives are a separate discussion, having your advertising say "Console exclusive" during an event watched by millions, is quite the deceptive play.
