PS5, Xbox Scarlett & Nintendo Switch: 9 Things We Need To See
1. Xbox - Finding A Unique Selling Point
If there's one bitter truth about the Xbox One it's that it's the least exciting console on the market. Whilst PlayStation boasts the only VR support on a console and the Switch managed to integrate portable gaming into the traditional console experience, Xbox can't really bring anything to the table that isn't available from both its competitors.
It seems natural that Xbox's goal this generation should be to define themselves with some sort of unique selling point, whether that's through a piece of innovative new technology or perhaps largely expanding exclusive services. Whatever it may be, delivering experiences that no other console has in its arsenal is Microsoft's key to levelling the playing field and putting themselves back in the driver's seat for the years to come.
Whilst it appears Xbox have attempted to travel down this route before - having invested time and resources into AR technology through the HoloLens - their lack of urgency could cost them when it comes to releasing a new console. Launching out the gate and announcing integrated HoloLens capabilities or perhaps promoting game pass to a Netflix sized endeavour would ensure that the next Xbox sells because it offers features you can't find anywhere else, which is a much better alternative to relying on the brand loyalty of its fans.
