PS5 & Xbox Series X: 8 Biggest Questions We STILL Have

2. Why Are Companies Discontinuing Physical Discs?

Maybe this is more a publisher whim on behalf of Ubisoft than Xbox, but Collector's Editions for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion and Far Cry 6 all had their physical Xbox discs cancelled in a recent report.

The change apparently won't affect North America, but those who forked out the £180 for Valhalla's fanciest version will get everything other than the game in physical form, with a download code sitting in place of the disc.

Needless to say fans are incredibly annoyed. After all, if you're paying that much and choosing a physical edition, you want the disc and everything else in one tangible package, not a voucher-based copout.

Neither Ubi or Microsoft have commented on the sudden change, but it makes you wonder:

With such a push towards all-things digital - streaming, Game Pass, PS Now, PS Plus, Games with Gold - is there an ulterior motive at play, pushing consumers towards digital ownership regardless of choice?
