PS5 & Xbox Series X: 8 Biggest Questions We STILL Have
1. Should Release Dates Be Staggered Across 2021 Instead?
There is absolutely no way Sony are putting the breaks on what's in motion for PS5. They are all the way in - from locking in pre-orders (without a price) to confirming brand sponsorships and launch titles, we are getting another PlayStation in 2020.
The question though, is a matter of whether we actually should or not.
The practicality of a delay certainly applies more to Microsoft, who were hinging everything on the advent of Halo blowing everyone's hair back. With that not happening, the game being delayed and even Halo 1-3 narrative legend Joseph Staten coming in to rewrite the ship months before that original date, it increasingly feels like Microsoft have simply read the room wrong.
Wait one year and you have Halo Infinite in a finished state - plus its 20th anniversary as a marketing spin. Other titles like Fable, Gears, Forza and Perfect Dark will be varying degrees of fully formed, giving you a more confident opening salvo and less time to wait until these titles arrive.
Xbox's new-age push is a laid back, "Hey man, don't worry, you can play whenever and wherever you want", so what's the rush? I can't help but think they're only launching to directly compete with Sony, and that's going to spell disaster.
Stagger the generation and learn from Nintendo. You'll perform far better if another company isn't eating into your sales in the same month.
