PSVR 2: 5 Confirmed Features (And 5 It Needs)
7. Needs: Wireless Connectivity
One element that has always held back a full-immersive VR experience is those darn cables.
Then Facebook started the Oculus Quest series in 2019, a VR-headset that is completely stand-alone, with full 360 tracking and not a single cable necessary.
We can basically call that a game-changer.
Of course, it meant the graphics took a slight hit compared to your high-end PCVR equivalents, but you could also plug the headset into a VR-ready PC and play more demanding games if desired.
Then came the Virtual Desktop, an app that allows you to connect to that PC and stream a triple-A game (e.g Half-Life: Alyx) to the Quest in a completely hands-free experience.
While it's already confirmed that the PSVR 2 will be a PS5-tethered experience, here's hoping they can bring the supplemental element of streaming games to it too.
It would certainly make it a truly cutting-edge experience...and they might finally put Sony's acquisition of (streaming company) Gaikai, to good use.
