PUBG: 9 Features It Needs To Compete With Fortnite
1. A Free-To-Play Model
An obvious and simple feature to implement on paper, but in practice? Bluehole would have a tough time pulling it off, not just because of PUBG's unrewarding cosmetic system, but the two-fold effect the transition would have on cheesing off players who have already dropped full price on the game.
But then, Bluehole wouldn't be the first to make such a move - it could reimburse owners of the game with free cosmetics/loot crates/keys - and the sensitive transitional period could pave the way for an influx of new blood. Not that PUBG is in such a dire state that it's haemorrhaging players, but there's no disputing the damage that Epic's free, more accessible alternative has had on player numbers.
For all the potential tweaks, changes and updates mentioned previously, this is the single biggest change Bluehole could make to tip the scales back in its favour for the battle of genre king.
Whether it deems the decision a necessary plunge to take is another matter entirely, but if nothing else changes of the next few months, it might not have a choice.
