Rainbow Six: Siege - 10 Things It'll Do Better Than Call Of Duty
5. A Shared Universe
Another benefit of the Tom Clancy licence - all of Ubisoft's Clancy titles inhabit the same living, breathing world, and titles often intersect in ways so subtle even Marvel's Cinematic Universe would be jealous. Unlike Call of Duty, there is a very clear continuity with the Clancy titles. They all inhabit the same world created by the author's fiction and don't stray away from its core at any point. Scott Mitchell (the key protagonist from the Ghost Recon series) becomes a general in the WW3 simulator End War, and in the first HAWX game pilots assist Mitchell's unit during the ending of GRAW 2. In the sequel, HAWX 2, Voron (Third-Echelon's Russian counterpart) lends assistance to the player, and in Vegas 2 the player interacts with Logan Keller - the protagonist of the previous entry. In its attempt to construct a linear narrative, Treyarch have created a convoluted timeline that comprises the events of World at War, Black Ops, and Black Ops II into one span, but it's unclear as to where Infinity Ward's and Sledgehammer's titles slot into this timeline - if they even do at all. All the Clancy games contribute to the wider lore of the universe, and that just makes their narrative even more significant.
