Rainbow Six Siege's Secret Lore Will Blow Your Mind

1. Connections To The Other Games

By far one of the most interesting things about Siege, however (and we hope that it's something Ubisoft explore thoroughly in a fully-fledged single-player at some stage), is its connections to the wider Clancy-verse. Older Clancy titles have, of course, interacted with the other, but it was only this year where Ubi took that interconnectivity to the next level.

In Ghost Recon: Wildlands (itself a title worth following, albeit for different reasons), a recent update revolved entirely around Rainbow's brutal Brazilian interrogator, Caveira, as she wreaked havoc on the Cartel in Bolivia. It soon transpires that she's gone off the grid, and so the Ghosts are forced to liaise with two other members of the group - Twitch and Valkyrie - to bring her in.

Ubi's writers tease more adventures between the two units, but perhaps more interesting is the reference to Rainbow Six: Patriots. Longtime fans of the Clancy license will be all too aware of the failed Rainbow title, which was set to tell a controversial, choice-driven tale and was cancelled sometime in 2012. It's the context surrounding the reference that'll be sure to pique fans' interests though, as Nomad makes reference to that operation while noting that it "went south". Caveira suddenly becomes agitated, and presto, you have the set-up to an interesting follow-up right then and there.

The Clancy mythos has long had its admirers, but should Ubi fully mine its potential, it could yet become gaming's next great mythos.
