Ranking 2018's Biggest Remaining Video Games By Anticipation
16. Battlefield V
Caught in a spiralling PR mess that started with DICE debuting a trailer featuring a soldier with a prosthetic hook-hand alongside another with a katana on their back, both in the same platoon on the front lines, Battlefield V has not had an easy go.
It didn't help matters when EA's response to the overall questioning of these elements was to make it a gender issue, actively telling consumers not to buy the game if they "couldn't accept" women in the trailer overall.
At time of writing, pre-orders are lagging behind Call of Duty by a whopping 85%, leading to a game delay, the tie-in Battle Royale mode now going free, and even rumours of a Bad Company 2 remaster being bundled in to sweeten the deal.
Of course, none of this has anything to do with gameplay, and as a recent hands-on beta revealed, BFV is shaping very nicely. DICE do seem to be resting on their laurels a little too much, and you almost have to have a history degree to pick out what makes this a World War II shooter from a distance, but as large-scale warfare goes, Battlefield always leads the charge.
If we're talking overall anticipation though, everything surrounding the game has arguably driven it into the ground.
