5. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Release Date: March 22
FromSoftware takes a light leap away from the Dark Souls franchise with this Dark Souls-in-feudal-Japan romp, which strips away the RPG and multiplayer mechanics their flagship series is known for in favour of streamlined - yet still hard-as-balls - combat.
With a focus on stealth and more technical swordplay, Sekiro is pretty much a thinly-veiled revival of the much-loved Tenchu franchise (which they previously worked on), which should help distinguish it from simply being a re-skinned Dark Souls game.
It also reportedly offers players greater opportunities for a speedy resurrection post-mortem, which could perhaps open the game up to a larger audience while hopefully not "dumbing down" the developer's signature punishing difficulty.
