One game sure to come out on top during the February gaming onslaught is BioWare's new "shared world" online multiplayer shooter Anthem.

While it's absolutely reasonable to be sceptical of publisher EA and BioWare hasn't exactly been on fire lately, Anthem certainly could be the "Destiny-killer" it's being hyped up as if it avoids generic open-world bloat.

It certainly looks nice enough, but as has been proven so many times, "emergent gameplay" isn't enough to sustain a multiplayer experience - looking at you, Sea of Thieves - and it'll take more than the mere joy of playing with some pals to make the story and missions compelling enough.

It's easy to be wary, but Anthem's a guaranteed sales juggernaut regardless of reception, and with an open beta scheduled for early February, hopefully that means EA is confident in what they're serving up.
