15. The Elder Scrolls Online (2014)
Originally launching in 2014 as buggy and barren, excitement for an online experience in the Elder Scrolls universe dampened pretty quickly after release (hmmmm... sounds familiar?).
Over six years though, Zenimax Online Studios has worked tooth and nail to overhaul the MMO with it developing a strong and loyal userbase, and making for a fun distraction for fans of the franchise.
Sure, the interface has only mildly improved into something less frustrating, and proceedings can verge on feeling like an Elder Scrolls theme park over the immersive experience of the non-online titles, but it plays smooth, and has tons of content. In fact, the expansion packs have pretty much made all past installments' worlds playable on modern machines.
The key to not being disappointed in the game is approaching it as a solid MMO title and not Skyrim in co-op. The online infrastructure doesn't lend itself well to the personal journey you'd find in the main titles, but if one can overlook that, this will be a fun (if unremarkable) distraction before Elder Scrolls VI drops.
