Ranking Every Battlefield From Worst To Best
6. Battlefield 2142
After Battlefield 2's massive success, DICE decided to continue expanding the franchise's frontiers with something more experimental. Released in 2006, Battlefield 2142 is a surprisingly enjoyable take on the series, with the only sci-fi effort in the series delivering some unique game modes.
More advanced equipment and multiple variants on conquest were enticing for many players, but these modes were quite literally dwarfed by the titan mode. It's up to soldiers to destroy a gargantuan flying behemoth by taking over missile sites and even better, infiltrating the monstrosity from the inside and taking out the power core.
This one game mode anchored 2142's place in the series and hasn't made much of an appearance since, aside from the larger vehicles in Battlefield 1. The action was further expanded by its expansion, Northern Strike, which added additional depth to the futuristic action.
With the game's servers having long been shut down since 2014, the franchise's escapades in a future setting are unlikely to resurface any time soon. A shame, considering how it offers all sorts of potential for unique modes.
Futuristic warzones may be in low demand on today's gaming landscape, but DICE should still consider venturing back to them at some point.
