Ranking Every Boss Battle In Spyro: Reignited Trilogy

4. Ripto

Toasty Spyro
Activision

Ripto has three very distinct stages, which makes him probably the most ambitious boss Reignited serves up. We see Ripto on his own, then with a robotic Gulp and finally with a robotic bird.

Addressing them in order, the initial stage sees both the player and Ripto racing to collect orbs. There’s nice variety to the attacks both Spyro and Ripto can get, but the camera makes it needlessly troublesome to see the orbs or attack Ripto. He’s at least a little speedier than he was in the 90s, meaning he doesn’t needlessly dally before picking up the orbs.

The mid section with Gulp is pretty much flawless; the right perfect of challenge for a final boss and makes the most of everything the game has to offer. But Gulp is definitely the high point, and once he’s defeated, Ripto’s Rage ends on a bit of a slump.

Once Ripto gets on his giant bird, Spyro is given powers of flight, but it’s much slower and turning is wider in Reignited. This means the end of the battle becomes a pain, and Ripto’s cheesing by flying outside of the arena for extended periods definitely doesn’t help matters.
