Ranking Every Boss Battle In Spyro: Reignited Trilogy

5. Scorch

Toasty Spyro
Toys For Bob

Much like Spike and Buzz, there’s not much of a story to Scorch in Year Of The Dragon. And while it lacks for narrative (especially when you consider the work put into Bianca’s story) it does do the arena battle formula better than the previous bosses in the third game.

Having to contend with the added element of extra enemies made the battle interesting, and Scorch’s flying gave him a unique edge. It was definitely fitting that Scorch had more tricks up his sleeve than Buzz and Spike, coming later in the game. However, the first game struggled with that incline, so Year Of The Dragon deserves some credit.

Allowing Spyro to have multiple power ups during the battle could have been great, but there’s just a few things that stop it from perfection. For one, the aiming mechanics leave a lot to be desired. There’s no real rhyme or reason to hitting Scorch, it’s all a little hit and hope.

The power ups themselves are the same as the Sparx mini game bonus levels. They work a bit better for the dragonfly too, which means Scorch’s battle doesn’t quite climb to the top of the pile.
