Advanced Warfare - or Call of Duty: The One With Kevin-Freakin'-Spacey - was the first time a studio other than Treyarch or Infinity Ward were put in charge of a main entry in the series.

And whether that meant that low expectations surrounding the title worked in the game's favour or that the desire for some fresh blood on the long-running franchise helped the title find a fan-base, Advanced Warfare was considered a breath of fresh air for the series at the time.

While some longtime fans decried the change, the introduction of exo-suits worked brilliantly in this title, giving players a wide variety of movement and combat options that brought more freedom to the game's single-player shooting.

Plus, while the series doesn't have the best reputation for getting the most out of its Hollywood talent, Kevin Spacey absolutely kills it in his villainous role, giving an already pretty enjoyable sci-fi plot the gravitas it needed to be something special.
