Ranking Every Classic Sonic The Hedgehog Level From Worst To Best

20. Star Light Zone

Sonic Ranking 3
SEGA

Note this is 'Star Light' Zone, not 'Starlight' Zone. Which really means lights in the shape of stars, not light from the stars. But the level is bathed in the glow of the heavens anyhow. Points lost for pedantry.

A sort of avocado-hued construction site, Star Light comes as a welcome relief after three terribly slow levels. The game finally picks up speed again, with rings and ramps for the 'Blue Blur' to tear through, set against a calming lounge melody. There's the odd bomb or ten to impede progress, but otherwise it's as leisurely as they come.

Even Robotnik's having a day off, joining Sonic to play on some see-saws at the level's end. Inevitably, things turn sour, but otherwise, Star Light's alright.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
