Ranking Every Classic Sonic The Hedgehog Level From Worst To Best

30. Metropolis Zone

Sonic Ranking 3
SEGA

Metropolis will drive you absolutely nuts, and we're not just talking about the super-big ones Sonic runs up and down. No really, it purposefully screws with you.

Those praying mantis badniks on the edges of ledges are pure spite. And don't even get us started on the exploding starfish. High-grade buggery in asteroidean form.

One of the chief complaints about Sonic 2 is that it's just too short. Yet conversely, Metropolis is its worst level because it's too damn long. After three horrible acts of club-fisted crabs, pulverising pistons, and the most frustrating boss in the series, you learn to appreciate the levels being reduced by a third.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
