Ranking Every Classic Sonic The Hedgehog Level From Worst To Best

29. Death Egg Zone (Sonic 2)

Sonic Ranking 3
SEGA

Sonic 2's final level has easily the most inefficient use of music in the series, its curious, creepy lullaby playing for all of two seconds before Sonic's upended by his robotic doppelganger.

The level itself is just a glorified corridor, housing two bosses, Silver Sonic, and a similar metallic facsimile of Robotnik himself. The latter is considerably tougher, almost as if the ersatz-hedgehog was purposefully a bit crap to undermine our hero.

In space - despite the improved reception - no-one can hear you ring. As such, Sonic is left to fight the two without protection. A challenging, memorable finale - but a short one.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
