Ranking Every Devil May Cry From Worst To Best
3. Devil May Cry 1
You wouldn't have any of this without the immaculate original, and though it spawned from one of many prototypes for Resident Evil 4 (hence some survival horror vibes in the camera angles, architecture and "find item to solve puzzle" level progression), DMC 1 still made one hell of an impact.
To this day, combat is buttery smooth and wide camera angles only enhance the cinematic qualities of bounding around various gothic environments, slicing foes in three and writing your name in their hides with a few thousand bullets.
Every single line Dante says is gold; the formation of a new gaming icon designed from the ground up to be described to any player's grandchildren. Forgoing its immediate sequel, things would only get even better from here on out, but Devil May Cry 1 still feels like an essential action game with the perfect runtime.
