Ranking Every Final Fantasy By Their Soundtrack

Final Fantasy VII OST: Tracks - 85, Composer(s) - Nobuo Uematsu

Final Fantasy VII was the first game to appear on a Sony Playstation console after Square jumped ship from being a Nintendo-exclusive developer. It's release drove the series into the mainstream and it is often cited as its finest instalment given how it is held in nostalgic renown by those who first experienced the franchise through it. Scoring the epic story of a Cloud and company is a truly phenomenal soundtrack, which kicked off the series' 3D debut in considerable style.

Two tracks stand out above all others, the first being 'One Winged Angel' Sephiroth's theme that is made all the more haunting by the melodic chanting that is present throughout. The second is 'Aeris' Theme', the beautiful and heartfelt piece that plays as the namesake character meets her end. As the track that first made waves in the Classic FM Hall Of Fame (reaching the #16 position in 2012), it stands out as perhaps Uematsu's finest ever creation.

Other characters such as Tifa, Cid and the Turks in particular are also the recipients of defining character themes, whilst the likes of 'Shinra Company', 'Listen To The Cries Of The Planet', 'Mako Reactor', 'Cosmo Canyon' and 'Judgment Day' all stand out as great location themes that vastly enhance the gameplay experience within the environments in which they played.

Battles are also a highlight thanks to the addictive melodies of 'Let The Battles Begin!', 'Fight On!' and 'Jenova', whilst elsewhere the likes of 'Rufus' Welcoming Ceremony' and the haunting 'Who...Are You?' are brilliant narrative accompaniments in a game that rarely disappoints from start to finish.
